This year I have the privilege and pleasure of riding in my sixth Pan Mass Challenge -a two day biking event traversing 46 Massachusetts towns from Sturbridge to Provincetown for the purpose of raising funds for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
The PMC has generated over $654 million for cancer care and research since its inception in 1980 and the events impact is best summed up by Dana-Farber president Edward J. Benz, Jr., MD
“We are profoundly grateful to the PMC and the riders who, year after year, demonstrate an unparalleled partnership and commitment to our work. PMC support has enabled Dana-Farber to make crucial investments in exciting areas of genomics, immunotherapy, chemistry, and patient care. The PMC makes it possible for us to recruit and retain superlative young faculty whose energy and creativity are changing the face of cancer care. Today, these investments are paying dividends in increasing knowledge about the biology of cancer, new and improved therapies, and better quality of life for people with cancer at Dana-Farber, and around the world.”
I am personally committed to raising $5,000 this year and all funds raised are earmarked specifically to support Dana Farber’s Pediatric Low-Grade Astrocytoma Program (PLGA Program). The programs goal is to provide better treatments and ultimately a cure for children battling brain tumors.
Childhood cancer is acutely distressing and I urge you to learn more about this vital foundation here at http://danafarberplga.org
Riding a bike on a summer’s day with friends and family is something everyone should have a chance to enjoy. Unfortunately we all know too well this disease has robbed so many of this possibility.
Please, let's assist in helping provide comfort and hope - I am grateful for any donation you may be able to make.
