Update May 2024: We are Millionaire Contributors! With your support, Team Eric has raised over $1 Million for Cancer research at the Dana Farber! Congratulations! Thank you All!
While I retired from work in December 2023, I have not retired from the PMC! Volunteering at the PMC waterstop in Franklin last year on Saturday was fun. Many members of Team Eric made PB&J sandwiches, cut fruit, filled hundreds of water bottles for thirsty riders, collected trash, and laughed together! The weather was perfect for our 50 mile ride on Sunday--sunny and cooler. Carl Barnes and I did not have to dodge any thunderstorms like in 2015. Later in the Fall two Team Eric riders, Sam Hoffman and Rob Barnes, participated in a newer PMC event the Unpaved Ride. This is a gravel bike ride, up and down the dirt roads of the Berkshires. It was a challenge and fun!
This August 5 Team Eric members will complete the 2 day ride--Wellesley to Provincetown. Two other Team Eric riders, the Barnes Brothers, will complete the 50 mile ride from Wellesley. Together with you we are raising money for Dana Farber Cancer Research. 100% of your donations goes directly to innovative research by Dr. Richard Stone and Dr. Vincent Ho. Advances in understanding how to make Stem Cell Transplants safer have led to no serious, life threatening, cases of GVHD in the past few years. We ask for your continued support!
Update May 2023: Please visit the Team Eric Chase profile page for a full update. In 2022 Team Eric raised $165,239 for groundbreaking Cancer Research! This brought our total over the past 10 years close to $1 Million! Thank you to all of our supporters. You truly are making a difference in the lives of Cancer patients. Your donations provide the soil and seeds that grow into bigger things. In March Dana Farber received two large grants in areas Team Eric supports: $12 Million to study Graft vs. Host Disease that develops after a stem cell transplant, and, $5 Million to study refractory AML Leukemia. Since 2012 the Eric Chase Fund for Leukemia & Transplant Research has supported work in these areas. Thank you All!
Update April 2022: Please visit the Team Eric Chase profile page for a full update. This August, after 2 years of a virtual ride, Team Eric will be Back in the Saddle for our 10th anniversary PMC. We will again ride 192 miles Sturbridge to Provincetown. Alot has happened in 10 years both with Eric's friend groups and in the field of Cancer research. Here are some highlights:
- Eric's Friends: Over 22 of Eric's friends have gotten married in the past 10 years! And over 12 babies have been welcomed by these couples. New life! New hope!
- Cancer Research: Overall Survival rates for most types of cancer have improved. Cancer Immunotherapy has developed into a whole new line of treatments. Genetic profiling of each cancer tumor has led to Personalized Medicine for cancer patient. Team Eric supports Dr. Richard Stone who led a multi-site study group that in 2019 led to 8 new treatments for AML Leukemia.
Thank you for your support over the past 11 years. Together we have made a difference in Cancer research and brought hope to many patients. Best wishes. Don Chase
Original Note June 2012:
My son Eric Chase, age 21, just passed away on June 28, 2012 from complications associated with the treatment for Leukemia. He was a vibrant, caring, outgoing young man. He was diagnosed with Leukemia in mid-December 2011. He was treated by doctors at the Dana Farber. After initial intensive chemotherapy he achieved initial remission. He was out of the hospital for 5 weeks and then had a stem cell transplant in mid-March. He developed serious complications from the transplant and died at Brigham and Women's Hospital on June 28th. What a tragedy for my wife and I, our whole family, and for the world. We need to find more ways to treat and CURE cancer! I AM RIDING FOR TEAM ERIC!! Check Out our Profile PMC--#TE0055
