It has been 3 years since I last participated in the Pan Mass Challenge and I am excited to ride again this year. I will be biking 160 miles over 2 days from Wellesley to Provincetown, MA.
As many of you know my father (Pops) has been battling prostrate cancer for over 12 years. He has his ups and downs and this winter was the first time during his fight that we thought his time was running out. In true form, Pops has bounced back and is about to go on a 10 day Baltic cruise at the end of August. His positive spirit, determination and no-quit attitude should be a lesson to us all. He truly is amazing and an inspiring role model for our whole family. Pops gets his care here in Boston and the PMC is a cause very close to our hearts. Many of the drugs he currently takes did not exist when he was first diagnosed- a real life example of cancer research at work.
This weekend Chris and I will join 6,300 cyclist and 4,000 volunteers to raise money for life-saving cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). The PMC raises more charitable dollars than any other single event in the country - $598 million since 1980 and $51 million last year alone. This year's goal is $52 million. Your donation brings us Closer by the Mile to ending cancer. This really is a special, remarkable event that is not like any other I have witnessed or participated in.
This year will also be special since Tess, our youngest, is currently at Cape Cod Sea Camps and we will get to give her a sweaty hug on Sunday as we bike by her camp. All campers get up extra early on Sunday morning and stand behind the hedge at the entrance to CCSC cheering on the riders as they bike by. Kendall and Carter will be flying home from camp by themselves so Chris and I have a real motivation to bike quickly to catch our ferry and be back in Boston in time to pick them up. A busy Sunday!
As in past years, 100% of your donation will go to cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. I have made a personal commitment to raise $10,000.00. I hope you will support my fundraising effort. Please give generously at the below link. DONATE NOW Thank you in advance, Darcey
