Why I Ride ...

Dear Friends,

One Million…One Billion

In early August of 1991, I participated in my first Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) charity bike ride. I raised $1696 and I was thrilled that I could raise that much. Fast forward to last year where I reached quite a milestone. I went above the $1 Million mark in money raised. I still can’t believe it and I am so grateful to everyone who helped me raise this incredible amount of money.

The PMC benefits the Jimmy Fund and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Dana Farber is a world leader in cancer research and treatment for children and adults. Cancer continues to impact the lives of way too many people. Cancer doesn’t care who you are, how old you are, or how good of a person you are. Cancer touches everyone, either directly or indirectly. This year, I am once again dedicating my ride to all the people who I know that have been touched by cancer over the past 34 years – my wife, my parents, siblings and their spouses, other relatives, good friends, former co-workers, and more. A number of these people have been treated at Dana Farber.

Little did I know back in August of 1991 this charity ride would change my life forever. And it’s even harder to believe that through your generosity, I have raised more than $1,000,000 for the PMC. On August 2nd and 3rd, I will once again be riding in the PMC and I cannot wait!

100% of every dollar raised by PMC riders goes directly to the charity. The PMC is now in its 46th year. Last year, cyclists raised a record $75 million dollars and this year’s goal is $76 million. Since 1980, PMC Riders have raised $1 BILLION for the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber. This is a staggering number! My goal for this summer’s ride is $42,000.
