Why I Ride ...
I am really excited to be riding in my 10th PMC! After 2 years of riding reimagined rides due to the pandemic, we will be riding the actual PMC route again. This year’s ride will be particularly tough though. Not only is it our first year back to the full ride, but this past fall we lost my mother-in-law to cancer. While year after year, we ride in the PMC, talk with survivors and doctors, and hear all the stories, nothing quite prepares you for when your own loved one gets their diagnosis and nothing prepares you for the loss. So this year I am riding in memory of her. I will also be riding for those loved ones who are still with us fighting their fights, including my Cousin Susan who is currently facing her breast cancer diagnosis with remarkable bravery and humor. I ride for our loved ones who are cancer survivors, like my grandfather who has been able to meet 4 great-grandchildren. I ride for those who are not with us today, but whose memories motivate us to continue the fight for a cure. I ride so that my son Charlie will never have to know the devastation of this terrible disease. On Aug. 5th, we will be lining up at the starting line side-by-side with thousands of other riders in Wellesley, MA (as we have done 7 times before), to raise funds and awareness for cancer treatment and research.
