This August, I'll be taking part in my first Pan-Mass Challenge, a 186-mile bike ride across Massachusetts to raise money for cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. For me, this event holds special meaning as I'll be riding in honor of my mom, who is courageously battling multiple myeloma.
Before her diagnosis, my mom enjoyed cycling on the trails around our home. Those outings allowed us to explore the outdoors together and create cherished memories side-by-side on two wheels. When multiple myeloma disrupted that chapter of her life, a piece of our bond was put on hold.
By participating in the PMC, I'm aiming to rekindle that connection in a deeply meaningful way. The route crosses the Cape Cod region where we vacationed as a family when I was younger, making this bike trek symbolic of revisiting our joyful past while pedaling toward a future of hope.
Half of the funds I raise will directly support the area of cancer research relevant to my mom's multiple myeloma - adult oncology. The other half will fuel breakthrough work on lymphoma. With your generous donation, we can propel cutting-edge science closer to better treatments and cures.
While my mom can't cycle alongside me this year, I'll be carrying her spirit with each push of the pedals. She has been my inspiration through this challenge as I train to go the distance. I hope you'll join me in honoring her unwavering courage by making a contribution toward lifesaving cancer research.
My personal fundraising goal in 2024 is $6,000. No amount is too small, and every dollar takes us closer to a world free from this terrible disease. You can donate easily online using a credit or debit card, or donor-advised funds (DAF) using this link. You should also see these options to your left along with Venmo (note that Venmo takes a few days to show up on my end). If you would prefer to send a check, please make it payable to the PMC and mail it to Chris Murphy; 43 Royal Ave Unit 3; Cambridge, MA 02138. If your company does gift matching, please contact your HR department for the necessary info.
Together, we can keep the spirit of our family bike rides alive while accelerating the innovations that will help her and countless others impacted by cancer. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your support.
Thanks and best wishes,
Chris
