My nephew Evan was 10 yo when he was diagnosed with DIPG, a pediatric- and always terminal- brain cancer. One year to the day of his diagnosis, at 11 yo, Evan passed away and every day since his memory has been living on through Evan's Crew- a group of his family and friends dedicated to raising money to find a cure for DIPG. The goal is for a cure and for no family to endure the heartbreak of a diagnosis with no hope for treatment other than experimental, clinical trials.
This year, Team Evan's Crew has been riding in the 2-day Pan-Mass Challenge for a decade and has raised over $1,000,000. This will be year 4 for me, though it will only be my 2nd time on the actual route. I will also be joined by 2nd year rider Dave Knight, who I recruited after he showed years of unwavering support. Check out my gallery for pictures of our training and final ride for the 2021 Pan-Mass.
Why does Evan’s Crew ride every year?
Because Evan would. He was always up for a good dare. He was sweet and mischievous, lover of fireworks and a good prank, maker of awesome egg sandwiches and chocolate chip cookies. Always down for a good fart joke. The loss of this sweet boy was devastating and in the years since the family has focused their efforts on finding a cure. They created a foundation in Evan's memory at Dana-Farber and work tirelessly to raise money for further research.
I am restricting my funding so that 100% of all donations made to me through Team Evan's Crew will directly fund DIPG research at Dana-Farber through the Evan T. Mandeville DIPG Research Fund.
Any little bit you can give helps. It helps go towards a cure and towards a day no family needs to hear a diagnosis with such a grim prognosis.
Thank you!
Christie
