On August 1st and 2nd I have the humble privelege of supporting Team Evan's Crew in a modified 2-day cycling fundraiser moving us closer to a cure for a brain cancer known as DIPG. The Team-- parents, family and friends of Evan T. Mandeville, an 11-year old boy who waged a valiant year-long battle against the disease. During his fight, Evan refused to surrender his positive attttude or let the afflication define him. The Team rides behind the eternal wave of Evan’s extreme courage and strength. For more details please refer to the Team Evan’s Crew team profile page http://www2.pmc.org/profile/TE0051 and visit http://www.evanscrew.org. In the 8th year of participating in the Pan Mass Challenge, the team has grown to 22 riders as we continue our commitment to channel resources and promote awareness.
How can you help? Please contribute to the ride of Team Evan’s Crew. One-hundred-percent of your donation goes to the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber Cancer Institute supporting the development and implementation of Clinical Trials --the building blocks of research necessary to find cures for rare forms of cancer, of which there are many. Funds raised through our team will directly support research into obstructing the development of DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma), the cancer that Evan was battling.
We are encouraged by the progress reported by DFCI as it relates to specific advances in understanding the genetic composition and behavior of mutated DIPG cells, the development of inhibitors, and overcoming the challenge of penetrating the blood-brain barrier in order to deliver treatment. The DFCI brain tumor clinic relies heavily on our philanthropic investment in developing clinical trials.
Coordinating resources through events such as the PMC is our best chance at making progress towards developing successful treatments. Your funds are going to a highly reputable research and treatment facility -- Dana-Farber/Boston Children's is ranked the #1 pediatric cancer hospital by the U.S. News & World Report 2019-20 Best Children's Hospitals guide.
Please take advantage of any matching contributions through your employer. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
See you out on the road.
