07/13/2025 We visited the Jimmy Fund Clinic a few weeks ago. Just over the PMC bridge from the Yawkey Center, the location has changed but the vibe has not. It serves as an oasis of hope from the reality of what the children and families there are dealing with. The last time we were at the clinic was not a good day. As always, Ryan was his happy and gregorious self, but we were not, the news left us empty, we were told that the doctors had done all they could, Hospice would be in contact with us. Go home and make the most of the time we had. This was probably the main reason we hadn't been back for 11 years. That is why I ride.

7/20/2024 I have had my own scare this past month. The day of the Celtics parade, I was diganosed with a mass on my bladder. With the help of tremendous nurses and Doctors, my operation was a success. With a clear pathology report, the tumor was completely removed and things look good. My follow up was postponed to 3 months from now to make sure all is OK. As I was told of the news, I stopped what I was doing and cried. I knew what a negative report would have meant, and I thought of Ryan, and if the latest medical technology could have saved him...

5/27/2024. Today is Ryan's birthday. We break through our sadness knowing that what we do through Ryan's foundation and fund, make a huge difference in the lives of children and families that benefit from our efforts. We lost a great man to pancreatic cancer this year. Dana Lee was a great skier and mountain biker, builder of amazing trails, and lived life to the fullest. He was at the Peace Garden ride last year and past away only weeks after that ride. The good, no great, news is that I received an article that a little boy with DIPG has been cleared of it and is officially in remission. We need to keep up the fight so more than one child can receive the same positive outcome!

Springtime 2023: The town of Medway has a Peace Garden for all the children that had passed way far to early in their lives. During a recent evening mountain bike ride we came upon it. I had been there only once before when it was being constructed. As we rode the yellow brick road swirl toward the center, I noticed larger white bricks with the names and dates of the children placed randomly among the red ones. I stopped at one point and wondered aloud if we had participated in having a brick for Ryan. I looked down through the darkness and mist, and to my surprise, I was standing on Ryan's brick....

My son Ryan was diagnosed with DIPG when he was 7 years old, two and a half years after that, Ryan passed away at the age of 10. Our family was devastated and we had to make sure his life would be remembered. We started the Ryan Harvey Foundation and through the PMC, the Ryan Harvey Fund, where 100 % of your donations go to the research for DIPG. Dana Farber and the Jimmy Fund continue to try and find a cure for this deadly disease for such young children. I'm inspired by the doctors and nurses that are so committed to taking on such a heartfelt task.

One of the riders that night was Dana Lee, he is currently battling a very serious cancer and we hope, dream, and believe that he will be OK.... Another great friend, John McGee, was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer, he passed away in April 2020 at the age of 60. He was a huge supporter of Ryan’s Foundation and would donate countless meals from his restaurant, Mamma Maria's in the North End.

Another LS classmate, Dr. Rick Vanderslice, passed away in July. of 2020...Cancer does not care who or how old you are.

It is now more important then ever to continue our fight to make progress in anyway possible.

Ryan’s life continues to be an inspiration to us all. RHF was created to honor his memory and find ways to make a difference. The foundation provides funding to help find a cure for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) and related pediatric tumors. The RHF also provides direct support to families facing this currently incurable disease.

Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma is a highly aggressive tumor that is difficult to treat because it is found at the base of the brain stem. These tumors are found in the lowest, stem-like part of the brain called pons. The pons control many of the body’s most vital functions. Diagnosis is typically between ages 5 and 9.

There are no known survivors to date.

Dana-Farber, Boston Children’s Hospital, and international research centers are collaborating to find a cure..
