Dear Family and Friends,
I hope this letter finds you all healthy and well. I write to let you know that I will fundraise for and participate in the 2024 Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) charity bike ride on August 3rd and 4th. (This will be my 22nd PMC)
As most of you know by now, each summer I ride my bike with the PMC in memory of my sister Jeanne and in support of my mother Mary. Many of you knew Jeanne and know that she died on June 17, 2007 at the age of 41 after battling colon cancer. Then in the spring of 2021, my mother Mary was diagnosed with lung cancer. My Mom is a patient at Dana Farber and has been bravely fighting her cancer for close to three years. We hope and pray that my Mom continues to keep her strength. It is my intention to ride with the PMC in August to honor Jeanne and to support cancer research efforts for the benefit of my Mom, all those on my list and, frankly, all of us.
Although most of you are familiar with the efforts of the PMC, I will provide a brief description for those who might not know about the challenge.
My sponsors from past years know I write to request that each of you participate with me in the PMC through donations. Although each year the fundraising for the PMC is challenging, I feel strongly that I need to continue to participate in order to honor Jeanne’s and other loved ones’ memories and to help support my Mom and so many other peoples' loved ones.
Our teamwork, yours and mine, does make a difference in raising funds for cancer research so that more people now, and in the years to come, will survive these terrible diseases. Last year, by the final deadline my PMC fundraising total for 2023 was over $7,992! I have enclosed a history of each of my PMC years of fundraising; to date we have raised over $121,347 toward cancer research. Thank you so much!
So please remember my sister Jeanne, my mom Mary and the people close to you who have been touched in some way by cancer. I ask that you reflect on the importance of supporting cancer research. We are all in this fight together.
In addition, I ask you to let me know the names of those people in your lives who are currently battling, or have battled, cancer. Although I am sad that my list grows every year, I am also greatly honored to dedicate my ride to each of these people along with my sister Jeanne and my mom Mary. It is truly a privilege to take their names with me on this bike ride.
Let me also say, I understand if you cannot give this year, I know I have your support in spirit. However, please know that every donation amount is sincerely appreciated. I value the generosity of each one of my sponsors every year.
I thank you in advance for your support and generosity
All the best,
Christine Harney Hanifin,
