**8/4: First Pan-Mass Challenge is complete.
6/14: 32mi ride to support the American Diabetes Association, Wells, ME Completed
6/7: 62mi ride to support the American Diabetes Association, Kingston, RI Completed
5/10: Wishing all the mother's out there a very happy and healthy Mother's Day!
4/21: Congratulations to all those who participated and attended the Boston Marathon yesterday! Huge credit goes to the preparation of those participants as well as the fundraising efforts from all competitors, very inspiring!
There really is no way to sugar-coat the reality we all face in today’s world: We have all been affected in some way by cancer. We know those who have survived, we knew those who have fallen, and we continue to live through those experiences that come from this disease.
I’m not a doctor, miracle worker, or hero. However, for
those who know me, they understand I have never been one to sit around when
something can be accomplished. To quote Ari Gold from Entourage, “There is always
something that can be done, you just have to think really, really hard. So
everybody think!” There is always something that can be done if
you put your mind to it. When it comes
to enduring on multiple rounds of chemotherapy, or merely sitting in a waiting
room, it seems as though biking 180 miles over two days
is but a mere scratch on what cancer patients so courageously have to endure. My eyes have also been opened even further upon volunteering multiple times over the past six months at the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge in Jamaica Plain. Yet as a personal challenge to myself and others, I want to try and make a difference one way or
another in hopes that one day we can all live in a world that is diagnosed as
cancer free.
If you’re reading this, it’s because you are someone I love,
admire, look up to, work with, have worked with, fought with, laughed with or
simply had a conversation with in the past. Over the last four years, I have
developed an incredible infatuation with biking and I am not sure if it’s been the
accessibility of the Eastern Trail behind my home in Maine, or if I’m just in
love with the outdoors. I have been inspired by my parents Stephanie and Glen York who have always been my biggest supporters, close friends Shane Bernier of
Sunapee, NH and Scott Tobey of Boston, MA who told me to put my biking to the test and for
a worthy cause and by my girlfriend Mary Peterson of Wilmington, MA, who
convinced me that the Pan-Mass Challenge is the perfect event to test what kind of person I really am. Who doesn’t love a challenge from time to time?
Therefore, on August 1st and 2nd,
2015, I will be biking 180 miles from Sturbridge to Wellesley in the 36th
riding of the Pan-Mass Challenge. I am hoping with your sponsorship, of which 100%
of the proceeds go to the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, I can
reach my personal goal of raising $3,600 for cancer research. If you have any
questions please don’t hesitate to reach out at byork18@maine.rr.com. Once again, any donation
is more than appreciated, and I thank you so very much.
With Love and Admiration,
Brian
