I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. 100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
I did my first ride in 2019, because in January of that year we lost an amazing woman, my mother-in-law, Virginia Grogan. For 6 years, Ginny was the emotional rock for her family and friends, all while courageously fighting her illness. She remained selfless even in times when she was in terrible pain. I have been blessed to know her and I am so grateful to be a part of her family. Ginny's heroic nature has clearly been passed on to my incredible wife, Kathryn, and our three boys, Henry, Walter, and Pierce.
The PMC was not new to me, my dear friend Matt Sullivan, has been a proud PMC participant since 2011. He has raised over $150,000 in his 13 rides, and will be riding again this summer. Last year, we lost Matt's mother, Maryellen Mame Sullivan. Mame was diagnosed with a form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma back in 2015, and because of great doctors and medication, was able to live a full life for many more years. One side affect of the drugs was a challenged immune system and when she caught pneumonia back in January, despite her grit and tenacity, her body couldn't handle it. Mame and the Sullivans have been like a second family to me since our days at BC High, so this year we will be thinking of them as well.
This summer I will be riding in my 5th PMC in honor and loving memory of Ginny, Mame, and all of those affected by this disease.
