Dear Colleagues,
I am looking forward to riding in the Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) this August 3-4. My son Brooks will be joining me again on what is much more powerful than just a 200 mile bike ride. The positive energy from the event is incredible, from the thousands of cancer survivors of all ages holding signs along the route thanking you for their survival, to the comradery of shared purpose all weekend. It truly is an incredibly uplifting experience as you witness firsthand the positive impact Dana Farber’s cancer treatment and research has had. The fundraising goal for the PMC this year is $75mm, which will bring funds raised for Dana Farber cancer research and treatment to over $1B since the events inception!
We will again be riding in memory, honor, and support of Westminster and St. Lawrence alumnus Davey Hovey, who passed away at age 26 due to brain cancer, on Team CRUSHTOUR.
CRUS11TOUR is the name that Davey gave to his battle against Stage IV Glioblastoma Multiforme, an aggressive form of brain cancer. He graduated from Westminster School ‘09 and then St. Lawrence ‘13, where he captained the Lacrosse team his senior year. Davey was just 25 years old when he was diagnosed and fought bravely through multiple surgeries, seizures and treatments as he had every intention of “crushing” his tumor. Sadly, Davey passed away after a courageous 16-month battle. During this time, he partnered with Golf Fights Cancer, raising substantial funds through participation in their 100-hole Golf Marathon (June 2016) as well as initiating a 9 member Boston Marathon Team (April 2017). He left behind a loving family and many close friends, all of who have vowed to keep his CRUS11TOUR legacy alive. His strength and competitive spirit have motivated many to raise money for important brain cancer research, specifically being conducted by Dr. David Reardon and his team at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Davey taught us many valuable lessons during his battle with cancer, the importance of family and friends, giving back, and always to “Keep the Faith”!! CRUS11TOUR never ends
Your support of my goal to raise $15,000 is truly appreciated as it moves us closer by the mile to finding a cure for this disease!!
