My name is Bruce McCutcheon. I live in Sarasota, FL and am blessed to have a beautiful and very understanding wife
(Jean), as well as 3 great children ( Renata, Matt and Mike).
I have decided to ride, again in this year's PMC. The will be my 17th PMC and will encompass the entire two-day event from Babson College to Provincetown. This year, again, I will ride in honor of my first wife Sally, as well as in an effort to finally get off my butt and do something to try and help defeat Cancer. Also this year, I have joined with 15 other men and formed a team to ride in memory of great person who had a significant positive impact on my two sons. The Team is called Team WillPower and we ride in memory of John Willett, David Gardner and Steve Lenhardt. All lost long and courageous battles to cancer and were personal friends and great human beings.
I have been directly impacted by Cancer and its terrible results. In November of 1996, my first wife Sally was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. She was 36 at the time and had just given birth to her first, and only child ( Matt), 18 months before.
I watched Sally fight this terrible disease while trying to squeeze as much time as possible into her life wih Matt. She was an intelligent, caring person who loved her little boy more than anything else in the world.
Unfortunately, she lost the battle with her cancer and passed away in November of 1998. Matt was 3 and a half at the time. If I can help in any way, to eradicate this disease; so that no other Dad has to explain why Mommy went to heaven, it will be well worth it.
In her last few days, Sally and I spoke often about Matt and the future. I promised her that I would raise him to be a caring, happy, well-rounded person. With the help and hard work of my wife, Jean, I feel that Matt is well on his way.
It is time to do something else to honor Sally's memory and help eradicate this disease.
I am also riding in memory of Sally''s Dad, Baron, who lost a battle with Prostate Cancer a few months before Matt was born. He knew that he would have a grandchild, but never was able to meet him. Also Sally's mom, Pat, who passed away from Breast Cancer, when Sally was 13.
Finally I am riding not only for all those whom I have known who lost a battle with Cancer, but to celebrate the many great things that I am thankful for in my life. I have my health a great family, a wife I love very much and a fantastic extended family.
In training for and completing this ride, I want to not only honor memories and lives, but celebrate life itself.
I am asking that you please help me in this effort by contributing to my ride.
Thank You.
