I am very proud to say this will be my 21st year riding in this special event. I want to applaud all the members of Team Messina. Together we have raised over $118,000 since I started fundraising & riding in the PMC. Most of you receiving this donation request have been long time members of Team Messina. I am looking for all my longtime supporters and hopefully some new ones to step-up & keep this ball rolling. Next stop is $200K!!
Most of you know what the PMC is all about but I still encourage you to take a minute to read some incredible PMC facts below... Then take another minute to make a donation to this worthy cause.
About the PMC
The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is an annual bike-a-thon that today raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the country. The PMC was founded in 1980 and has since raised $1 Billion dollars for adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) through the Jimmy Fund. In 2023 the PMC gave a record breaking gift of $72 million dollars to DFIC. The PMC has pioneered the $5 billion athletic fundraising industry and is today a model of fundraising efficiency. The event donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause. The PMC is responsible for generated over 55 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue and is Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor. This year PMC cyclists will ride with the goal of raising $75 million for DFCI.
The Ride
The Pan-Mass Challenge is a fully supported bike-a-thon with food and water stops, mechanical and medical assistance, luggage transportation, and lodging that runs through 46 towns across Massachusetts. Approx 6,000 cyclists from ages 15 to 84 rode in 2023. Cyclists choose from 16 routes of varying mileage designed to cater to all levels of cycling strength and fundraising ability. I am doing a 2 day Reimagined ride from Billerica to Rindge, NH and back again (approx 120 miles). I am required to raise a minimum of $6,000 this year.
When
The 45th annual PMC will be held on Aug 3rd & 4th, 2024.
Who
Cyclists travel from more than 47 states and 12 countries to ride in the PMC. Over 900 riders are cancer survivors or current patients. Some PMC cyclists are weekend warriors, others are trained triathletes. Most PMC participants ride in honor of a family member or friend fighting the disease. Cyclists range in age from 15 to 84. The average PMC cyclist is 45 years old, trains for three months, solicits 50+ sponsors, and raises more than $6,000. During PMC weekend and throughout the year, more than 4,000 volunteers donate their time, and 200 corporations provide more than $8 million in products and services each year. The PMC is presented by the Red Sox Foundation and New Balance.
