Why I Ride ...

On a cool fall morning last year, I walked around a corner in Cambridge, Massachusetts and found myself face-to-face with someone I knew. I hadn't seen him in a few years. That is, I hadn't seen him since before he died due to complications from Lung Cancer in 2009 at the age of 31. Kevin Brummett, now a face on a Dana-Farber advertising billboard, was the brother of a highschool friend. He was a non-smoker, and a healthy vibrant young man. Now I see him on a billboard, a reminder that cancer does not discriminate.
It was also a reminder of why I participate in the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC).
As you are aware, I've been a rider in, and contributer to the Pann-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC) for several years now, because this cause is VERY important to me. That said, and to be direct, the fund raising commitments for this event are daunting. If you'd like to help, please make an eGift here!
My motivations to ride in this event are the memories of my Mother who was a victim of breast cancer in 2008, and Kevin Brumett who I mentioned earlier, who at the age of 31, lost a hard battle with Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer. I am also continuously driven by countless stories about how cancer has touched you and your families. Unfortunately, I hear new stories every year. Fortunately, they give me the motivation to ride on.
My goal is to raise $6000 this year. Since 1980, the PMC has raised over $330 million for cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. If you want to learn more about this event and the cause for which it stands, there are several links listed here for you to peruse:
