Dear Friends & Family,
I hope this email finds you all well. It is hard to believe that I have been in Boston for almost 2 years - it feels like yesterday that I was leaving Chicago. As most of you know I joined TA Associates the summer of 2010 and Boston has been fantastic.
One of my new passions since I moved here is road biking. Prior to Boston I was not a biker, but over the last 18 months I have grown to love my morning rides and typically cycling in near freezing weather. This interest all started last summer (as many of you may recall) when I road in my first Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC). The PMC is a truly amazing event - it is a 2-Day / 170 mile ride across Massachusetts ending at the end of Cape Code (Provincetown, MA). Last year over 5,000 cyclists participated in the event and we raised over $34 million for cancer research and treatment at the world renowned Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. Total dollars raised for the PMC since it started in 1980 is +$335 million! The PMC raises more money for charity than any other single event in the United States and 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar goes directly to the cause.
Last year I rode the PMC with 13 of my co-workers from TA. It was a huge success and Team TA raised over $130,000 together. After my experience with the PMC weekend last year, I was touched by the event and the cause. We all know someone whose life has been deeply impacted by cancer and to do my part, I decided to step up my involvement both with Dana Farber and with our PMC team here at TA Associates. This year, I am the team captain for Team TA Associates. Our team goal this year is to raise over $160,000.
My fundraising plan: This upcoming summer I am participating in 8 separate official rides (totaling 953 miles). Each of the rides has a charity component to the ride. Rather than ask my friends and family for donations to each of the 8 charities, I have decided to ask all of you to help the cause that is most important to me - the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the PMC. Focusing all of my fundraising efforts on one cause seemed like the smart idea.
I have summarized my 8 rides below. My idea is that people will sponsor me at a certain rate (detailed below) for the mileage I am riding by donating that $ amount directly to my PMC website (link at the bottom of this email). Throughout the summer I will send update emails after each of my rides (I will obviously include pictures of me in spandex, if you view that as an incentive).
Below is a quick mileage donation rate to total $ donation for your help when deciding how much to donate (953 total miles). Obviously round dollar amounts are more than appreciated - you do not have to follow this mileage rate.
$0.05 per mile - $47.65
$0.10 per mile - $95.30
$0.15 per mile - $142.95
$0.20 per mile - $190.60
$0.25 per mile - $238.25
So with that, I kindly ask for your support in this great cause as I do my small part in the fight against cancer.
On an unrelated note, let me know if you’re ever through Boston and I’d love to get together!
Regards,
Brendan
