I am participating in this ride to accept a challenge that, though I am uncertain about my ability to complete, is symbolic of the immense challenges faced by those directly or indirectly affected by pediatric cancer. On the 21st of June, one of my closest friends and adventure partners, Mike Farina, and I will be riding 300 miles across Massachusetts in just one day to raise funds for this essential cause. We are embarking on this incredible journey to support the Dana-Farber Pediatric Cancer Center. Every day, families and individuals are forced to take on battles they never anticipated, and their courage, resilience, and determination serve as a profound source of inspiration.
I have known several individuals impacted by pediatric cancer, and the emotional and physical toll they endure is both heart-wrenching and humbling. The strength they demonstrate in accepting, confronting, and maintaining a positive outlook despite their circumstances is nothing short of extraordinary. These individuals, along with their families, are the true warriors, and I ride in honor of them—those currently fighting, those who have triumphed, and those who have tragically lost their battle.
I also ride to recognize and support the tireless efforts of healthcare professionals—nurses, doctors, researchers, and volunteers—who dedicate their lives to finding a cure and supporting those affected by this devastating disease.
This endeavor is especially meaningful to me as I undertake this challenge alongside one of my closest friends, Mike Farina, and with the unwavering support of another great friend, Paul Whiting. I met Mike and Paul over two decades ago while serving together aboard the US Coast Guard Cutter Campbell, and I am incredibly grateful for their friendship, guidance, and the adventures they challenge me to undertake.
I kindly ask for your support in helping me reach my fundraising goal. Together, we can continue to support those fighting this battle and bring hope to the many families affected by pediatric cancer.
