In June 2023, I received the phone call no person wants - Hi Son, it's Mom, everything is going to be OK, but I have a rare form of cancer. Her cancer was Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of colon cancer with a poor prognosis, which is present in less than 2.4% of people with colon cancer. She fought her battle with such grace, dignity and positive thoughts, never wanting any of her loved ones to be worried about how she was feeling. On December 14, 2024, after 18 months of battling this awful disease, she passed and found eternal peace. If there comes a time when I am in a similar position, I hope I can handle the fight as she did.
A little about my Mom, she was such a loving, people person. During her trips to the Cancer Clinic for treatments, she brought smiles, hugs and laughter to those around her, many of which were also receiving treatments. She was an artist and engaged some of her peers in the clinic with an art class to help pass the time. She knew how to make the best of a difficult situation.
One of the most amazing gestures by my Mom was in her final days. Her husband and kids had been at her bedside for the last 6 weeks as she went from the hospital, to hospice, to home. We had been told any day, for days, she would find peace, but she was protecting her kids from seeing her pass. It was suggested to the kids for us to leave, so we did, and hours after we were gone she passed. How's that for a Mom looking out for her kids to the very end!! I love you, Mom!
That's why I am riding.
Please donate to my PMC fundraising and help me reach my fundraising goal. 100% of every dollar I raise goes directly to Dana-Farber and every cent helps the fight against cancer.
Thank you.
