in 2016 i rode my first pmc. it was a life changing experience. i didn't properly train in advance and was terrified that i wouldn't be able to complete the course. upon starting, i realized that not finishing wasn't an option. i was inspired by the countless stories of love, loss, bravery and survival that were told over the course of the ride - on helmets, riding jerseys, lawn signs and the like. if folks can battle cancer, i can complete the ride. and i did.
in 2017 and 2018, i cheered for riders atop a tough hill in norfolk. that too was a life changing experience. i saw riders of all shapes and sizes, riding for loved ones and friends. i saw physically handicapped riders who, despite being an hour or two beind the crowd, kept peddling. i cheered as loud as i could, and was inspired by each and every rider and their commitment to the cause.
i rode again in 2019, did a modified ride in 2020 given the pandemic, and am ready to ride again in 2021.
this year i am dedicating my ride to nisa and mary ellen. i admire their courage. courage to fight the disease every day, and courage to show up to be a strong, compassionate caregiver.
my prayer is that one day, all cancers will be curable and survival rates high.
thank you for your support!
