Our family has been impacted by cancer in so many ways, including the loss of my partner's mom, Gretta Morris, this past October. She was a bright light in our world, and impacted so many through her nursing career, her mentorship, her friendship and her warm smile. She was an incredible mom, sister, grandmother, friend and more. I am riding this year to honor her memory and the memories of so many others who we have lost, and also to honor the lives of the countless survivors who I know and love.
My nursing career has been dedicated to oncology for 12 years. The number of patients, families, and loved ones who have been impacted by cancer is heartbreaking. My goal in riding my third PMC is to raise additional funds for Dana Farber to continue their pivotal research into improved treatments and cures. My hospital, UMass Memorial Health, is part of the Dana Farber Cancer Collaborative, and our patients directly benefit from this partnership. 100% of funds raised will go directly to DFCI.
My years of working in oncology nursing have taught me that there is beauty in even the darkest of days. I hope that you will join me in finding beauty in hope this summer - hope for a brighter future, hope for better quality of life during and after treatments, hope for earlier detection and hope for more cures. Please contribute to support the amazing work being done at DFCI for patients of all ages.
I will be riding with blue and white ribbons for survivors and angels who have been impacted by cancer, so please send names of your loved ones when you make your donation, if you would like me to carry them with me when I ride.
With light, love, hope, and appreciation,
Aly
