Why I Ride ...
Dear Friends,
Happy summer !!
For the 13th time, I will be riding in the annual Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) to raise funds for cancer research and treatment. The ride is scheduled for the first weekend in August.
The PMC continues to be the most successful athletic fundraiser in the world. In 2023, we collectively raised $ 72 million; our goal for 2024 is $ 75 million.
With this year’s contribution we will pass the $1 BILLION mark raised for cancer research over the 44-year history of the PMC. What an amazing achievement for thousands of riders, volunteers and donors!!!! Thank you to each and every one of you for your role in our success!
In more personal terms, I am now more than 5 years post-surgery for prostate cancer. All my metrics are where my doctors and I want them to be. I have every reason to be optimistic that my medical experience was “one-and-done.” Last year’s PMC experience was extra special for me, as I was honored as one of the Living Proof speakers and addressed hundreds of cancer survivors who ride and volunteer on PMC weekend. It was a testament to my dedication to the organization and my long-standing involvement. It was definitely a moment of pride in my own cancer journey.
Please be as generous as you can in supporting my ride this year. The fight against cancer is not over by a long shot. We cannot continue to make progress alone. It takes each of us coming together in community to facilitate meaningful changes and improvements in cancer research and care. Thanks in advance for contributing to our common cause. As our PMC leaders consistently remind us, with our combined efforts we get “closer by the mile.
Talk soon, and thanks.
Best, Alan
