November will mark twelve years since the loss of my son Evan. He really was an amazingly sweet, funny and energetic little man. Evan was diagnosed with DIPG - a rare, inoperable pediatric brain tumor, in November 2011 and passed away exactly a year later at 11 years old. 11 years old! His little sister was in first grade... she will graduate from high school this year. So much has happened in our family and none of it is the same as it was before.
Evan took part in a clinical trial at Dana-Farber and was cared for by the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff of the Jimmy-Fund Clinic. Although this treatment was not successful for him, we continue to hope that future patients will benefit from his participation.
As a way for us to heal, we have supported DIPG research by participating in the Pan-Mass Challenge to raise money for the Evan T. Mandeville DIPG Research Fund at Dana-Farber; a fund that our family set up in Evan's memory. Through your generous contributions to our PMC team and directly to the fund, we have raised over 1.6 million dollars for research.
Your support helps researchers continue their work towards a cure and provide hope for families in the future.
One important note, please check if your employer has a matching gift program, it could double your gift and bring us closer to our goal and closer to a cure.
If you'd like to join us for some fundraising events check out our Evan's Crew website and our Facebook Page.
Thank-you for any donation you are able to make.
