I'll be riding in the PMC for the sixteenth time this year because Cancer can impact anyone -- even me. On May 16, 2008, at age 38, I was diagnosed with colon cancer. Today I am a cancer survivor, 100% healthy, and cancer-free for sixteen years. It wasn’t courage or determination that got me through, though I’d like to believe I demonstrated some of both, it was medical science that brought me from cancer patient to cancer survivor. That’s why I ride in the PMC, where every dollar raised by riders goes to the Jimmy Fund and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to fund cancer research.
This year I'll again be riding the full PMC route, from Sturbridge to Provincetown, with my amazing teammates on Team Kermit. I look forward to the ride, and to participating in a great tradition that PMC founder Billy Starr and I started together a decade ago - the living proof champagne toast, recognizing all of the hundreds of cancer survivors who ride in and volunteer for the PMC.
The training is done, now what's left is the hard part - raising the money that fulfills the mission of the PMC. It's a milestone year - the PMC has already reached $1 billion (with a B) in total funds riased since the ride began. I've raised more than $88,000 over the past fifteen years, and this year I plan to raise at least $12,000 more. The PMC is leading the way in funding the fight against cancer, and I'm proud to be a part of it. I hope you will want to be a part of it too by sponsoring my ride this year.
We all know and love someone who has been impacted by cancer. Join me as a sponsor, and we’ll complete this journey together!
