Why I Ride ...
For as long as I can remember, physical activity has been my means of easing anxiety and clearing my mind. Running was my constant and preferred method to calm my inner storm. After tearing my meniscus while serving in the Army, and subsequently developing cysts and early onset arthritis, my time pounding the pavement has come to an end. This has not been not easy for me to accept, but the pain from running became relentless.
I’ve since transitioned into cycling and have found new life in the pursuit of pushing my body to its limits. Volunteering to ride in the Pan Mass Challenge gives me the chance to be something so much bigger than myself and my own personal struggles which has elevated my focus and energy levels with a goal to work towards.
We all know at least one person who has been affected by cancer, which usually comes at great cost physically, emotionally and financially. My wife and I both lost our fathers to cancer in recent years making this a cause even nearer and dearer to our hearts.
100% of every rider-raised dollar goes directly to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. For me, this is a pursuit worthy of all of the all the hours and energy that will go into training for and ultimately completing the 2-day route from Wellesley to Provincetown in early August.
I will need all the help I can get to hit the $6000 fundraising goal. Please consider contributing to Team Fitz and this this great cause we are all riding for.
