This August, I'll be riding 192 miles in the Pan-Mass-Challenge and I am doing it because I had a call to do it.
In March of this year I had a near death experience that opened my eyes to how I live, and I heard a call to live a life of service and impact and healing. In a week's time I went from being a healthy person to being in a state of disease and infection that almost took my life in a matter of one week.
So now I train and I'm riding for three deeply personal reasons.
First, I was invited to PMC by my friend Erica Reifer to ride in memory of her father who was an amazing man and who passed away from a very aggressive form of cancer in 2018. He was my favorite dentist and a man who made me see the value and importance of family, because he was an embodiment of that. I always loved to spend holidays with Erica's family in college and hear stories and lessons from Jerry, her dad, because they were always funny, thoughtful, and had a lesson in them.
I also ride because my dear friend's daugher Maddie, who I knew personally since she was 17, was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at an age of 25 while pregnant with her second son. Watching her fight with unimaginable strength after, during, and after just giving birth to her second child is trully heartbreaking and inspiring and makes any personal issues insignificant in comparison.
And finally I ride for myself. I train for this ride because I want to regain my strength and heal. I also ride because I want to show up for others when they're facing their own hardest battles. It's really true, when you are healthy, you have a thousand problems, when you are not, you only have one. I ride to regain a thousand problems and to support those who are just dealing with one.
I appreciate every donation, big or small, because it makes a difference and very much appreciated. The Pan-Mass-Challenge raises money for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where 100% of every dollar goes directly to research and patient care. The donation is fully tax deductible.
For anyone who makes a donation of over 100, 250, 500, 1000 dollars, I will be adding different collor ribbons during my ride with your name on it as a sign of appreciation.
For anyone who had a loved one who went through cancer and you would like to have their name added on a ribbon during my ride please let me know. I will have a special section for anyone who you would like to be remembered or recognized as a cancer survivor.
If you've ever loved someone affected by cancer... if you believe in hope, healing, and doing hard things for a greater cause... please consider donating to my ride.
Help me honor the fighters, the survivors, and the ones we've lost. Help me turn pain into purpose -- one mile at a time. Starting from June 15-July 15 every donation will be matched up to 3000 dollars.
