I really didn’t want to have to write this letter again, but here we are. Not only does funding continue to be necessary for the work that the Dana Farber cancer Institute does, but we are also facing the reality of a federal government shrinking its size and scope, which ultimately effects NIH research and critical grants.
To quote Billy Starr, founder of the PMC:
“That is why what you do – what we do – matters more than ever. Weare the largest single contributor to Dana-Farber. And when others may pump the brakes, the PMC community needs to accelerate”
This year team Insoftibles, my father in his 34th year of riding, my mom with over 30 years of volunteering, and I on my 10th ride, are not slowing down or cutting corners! As we train together in this summer in the heat, we know our sweat is nothing compared to what cruel cancer does to love ones and their families.
In the year, since my family last wrote this letter, several people in our lives have been impacted by the scourge of cancer. We’ve come to realize that not only is the diagnosis devastating, but the treatment is so hard on the individual and the family. But through the support of the Dana Farber, these individuals are helped to manage the treatment protocols and, in the best-case scenario, go on to live happy and productive lives.
With your help, we raised almost $18,000 in 2024!
It's SO easy to make a difference and it feels so good. As always, the funds we raise will go directly to the Samantha T. Janower Low-Grade Astrocytoma Research Fund, which in turn supports the Dana-Farber's Pediatric Low-Grade Astrocytoma (PLGA) Program. According to DFCI, it is the only dedicated pediatric low-grade glioma research program in America and has since grown into a multidisciplinary and multi-institutional program, with collaborations initiated internally at Dana-Farber, nationally with other institutions in America, and internationally in Europe.
