I’m Riding Year #12 In The Pan-Mass Challenge – Thank You For Your Support!
Let me begin by thanking everyone for your donations, words of encouragement and support during my Pan-Mass Challenge training season. Last year, I had the pleasure of riding Day One with Team LUNGSTRONG from Wellesley to Bourne and volunteering with my sister Theresa (aka Anne) on Day Two at the water stop in Wellfleet. We made thousands of PB&J sandwiches for riders, and I massaged over thirty shoulders, backs and calves in the health tent. Shortly before I arrived home on Sunday, our son David proposed to his girlfriend Sarah. They will be getting married this August -- but I made sure it was not on PMC weekend!!!
With just 16 days to go until my 12th Pan-Mass Challenge ride. I wanted to share an update from Diane Legg, LUNGSTRONG’s team captain and our inspiration, with you:
“This October will be 20 years since I was diagnosed with lung cancer. Dana Farber is a leader in innovative lung cancer research and is working diligently to find a cure. There has been more progress in lung cancer research in the past 5 years than there has been in the last 30 years!! We are blessed to live so close to Boston and to have this kind of care accessible to us. We are extremely excited to be part of a team that will continue to support this critical work, giving us the hope that we need.
My sister was diagnosed with lung cancer 7 weeks ago. Fortunately, she was diagnosed early, had surgery, and her prognosis is good, BUT we still need better screening treatments, and more research on lung cancer! Last year, we were able to fund five young investigators over 2 years in their lung cancer research. This year, we want to the same -- which is why we need your help.”
Diane is an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and fierce advocate for LIFE. She believes we are all heavenly beings having an earthly experience and I find joy and comfort in this belief. Diane and her sister have a tough journey ahead of them and I hope, if you are able, you will support my ride this year, with both Diane and Beth as well as many others suffering from lung cancer in your prayers.
As always, please give me the names of any loved ones who are currently fighting cancer, or who lost their battle with cancer and I will add those names to my bike helmet ribbons.
To donate, visit www.pmc.org; click on Donate and type Alberta Grunbeck where it says Find a Rider. Click on my name to come to my fundraising page.
With profound gratitude,
Berta
12-year riding veteran of Team LUNGSTRONG
