Why I Ride ...
I ride the PMC in memory of my father, Tony Galluzzo Jr., who passed away in October 2016 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was first diagnosed in 1999, and after his initial recovery, he decided that he wanted to give back to Dana Farber for all that they had done for him throughout his diagnosis and treatment. So in 2002, he asked me – at age fifteen – to ride alongside him. I have been riding ever since.
In 2004, my dad’s cancer came back, but he delayed treatment so that he could ride in the PMC again that year. Because of the amazing care and treatment at Dana Farber, along with his incredible strength and courage, he survived cancer for a second time. Although he was unable to ride with us after that point, he was always at the finish line cheering us on.
This year will be another emotionally challenging PMC ride. I know that my dad will be there in spirit, cheering us on and giving us that extra push. My dad is my hero, and he provides all the motivation and inspiration I need to keep on pedaling.
I love you Dad.
