I'm a proud supporter of the PMC. This will be my first ride, joining my dad Mike for his 8th ride. This bike-a-thon raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the country - to bring us Closer by the Mile to a cure for cancer.
Since its founding in 1980, PMC riders like me have raised more than $1 billion for lifesaving cancer research, treatment and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, one of the country's top cancer care hospitals. My PMC is making a difference in the lives of patients at Dana-Farber and around the world. The funds I raise support the innovative work of doctors, nurses, and scientists in their search for cures for cancers and related diseases.
I will focus my fundraising efforts and donations specifically on Pancreatic Cancer Research. Donations will be split between two designated Dana Farber physicians, one a clinician and one a researcher. This effort is especially important to me as my dad lost both parents (my grandparents) to this horrible disease. The earlier the disease is discovered the better the survival rate. I am working with my dad to do what I can for those who can't because I still can. Hopefully, you can and will be able to help too. Each year the Pancreatic Cancer survival rate improves a bit. We have a long way to go.
I am very lucky to have been provided another opportunity to participate in an activity with my dad. Together, we have conquered the Fenway Spartan Race obstacle course, run two historic Boston Marathons (2013, 2014), trekked through a half (me) and full (my dad) marathon along the Great Wall, just to name a few. Come August 2nd, I get the opportunity to share this experience with him. I plan to ride a one-day, 84-mile course from Wellesley to Bourne.
Whatever you can do to support this effort would be appreciated. One never knows which dollar will make the difference. Please feel free to forward this as you feel appropriate.
Let me know if there are any questions.
