Why I Ride ...
My reason for riding is very personal as many people in my life have been affected by Cancer. Both grandmas passed from Cancer in their 60s. Some of my best friends in high school and college had parents going through chemo while we were in school. I was a Relay for Life Team Captain for 4 years during high school to honor them.
My mother-in-law, Loie WIlliams, battled pancreatic Cancer when my husband was in middle school. She is one of the strongest women I have ever met. With the help of Dana-Farber she has been all clear since 2004. Loie has ridden in the PMC every year since 2006 and I've been so happy to join her the last 7 years. The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute does so much good for families and patients and I just want to help keep the hope and miracles coming.
Last year my own mother battled Breast Cancer. Thanks to the many advancements in early detection and treatments, she was able to beat it with zero radiation or chemotherapy. Multiple of my good friends (in their 30s!) are having to deal with the big C. It is happening earlier and earlier and research needs to be able to keep up. These people are the reason I ride, and I will continue to do so as long as I can. 100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
