Help LEGS KICK cancer!
In 2003, Mike Mahler rode his first Pan Mass Challenge in honor of his son, who was treated for a rare form of cancer the year before. His wife, Renee, also volunteered as a Massage Therapist to help support the thousand riders that year. In 2004, with his son doing very well, Mike and his family wanted to support other families going through cancer treatment. Upon discovering the recently started PMC Pedal Partner program, Mike founded a new team which would ride in support of these families and also target research funds into the pediatric cancers these brave children were fighting. LEGS (www.teamlegs.com) was created and matched with it?s first Pedal Partner Jake Boudreau, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. Mike reached out to Meredith Starr to find out if it would be possible to support research into neuroblastoma and she provided a wonderful path to supporting this vital research - through team Friends For Life's Neuroblastoma research fund. Not only did all LEGS agree to support this fund, Jake?s parents and friends rode with Team LEGS as well. In addition, Mike?s children both rode in the PMC Kids ride in Medfield (the first of it?s kind) that year, with Jake and his sister! Jake would be a LEGS Pedal Partner and PMC Kids Ride champion (riding in Upton and then helping to lead the PMC Shrewsbury/Boylston ride as well) from 2004-2007.
