This year, 2020, will be Team Goose's inaugural PMC ride! Team Goose was formed to commemorate a special guy, Steve Pease, who sadly lost his battle to a deadly form of brain cancer, Glioblastoma Multiforme IV, in 2016. Steve dedicated his life to his family - he coached soccer teams, refereed pickup hockey games, and always loved to take his kids for a long bike ride. As his children grew out of trainining wheels and eventually family bike rides, his love of cycling remained the same and he enjoyed long rides along the North Shore on his own.
Though his diagnosis was incurable, there were very few times where Steve was seen without a smile on his face. His strength and perseverance through treatment were remarkable, and his attitude is something that we are in awe of to this day. He met every challenge with grace and taught us that we could conquer anything we put our minds to.
With Steve's perseverance in mind, we are riding 192 miles from Sturbridge to Provincetown to raise money for Neuro-Oncology and Dana Farber Cancer Institute. The PMC donates 100% of every rider-raised dollar directly to Dana-Farber and is the institute’s largest single contributor, raising more than 52% of the annual revenue at The Jimmy Fund®. The prognosis for Glioblastoma is so devastating because of the lack of research and treatment options for patients, and the Center for Neuro-Oncology at Dana Farber is pioneering clinical trials and innovative treatments regularly. The core mission of the PMC is to raise money for cancer research and treatment to ultimately eradicate cancer altogether, and I can’t imagine participating in a better event in my dad’s honor.
