Hi all,
What a year this is. Events canceled all over the place. The PMC could have been also. But the organizers took a different approach. The riders won't be gathering en masse but they will be riding. If you know me, you know I am known for my enthusiasm for all things running. I follow the athletes, events, races, and science. So why do I ride and volunteer for the PMC? I volunteer as a massage therapist to help the two-day riders make it through 189 miles physically and emotionally. It is my version of the two-day to maximize the support I give to the PMC.
But riding the PMC is for my wife who has more reasons to ride than even I do. And I am by her side in this fight. She is still showing her bravery as a 16-year survivor of cancer. Woo-hoo! Happy Anniversary! She is the one that brought me into the world of the PMC 12 years ago and she is the one that shows me directly that cancer can be beaten.
Unfortunately, cancer has also beaten a few people close to me. My dad John was the first person close to me to have lost the battle, followed by my Uncle John. More recently I lost my Aunt Marian and an uncle on my wife’s side. And there are many more.
I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading the charge to beat cancer. In fact, every year 100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
This year I will again be joining Team Zakim, riding to raise funds for the Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies at Dana-Farber. The Zakim Center is geared toward complementary medicine to assist in the treatment and well-being of cancer patients. They held a major role in Nanci’s recovery and continue to do so for many others.
My goal is to raise at least $1,000 and get some miles on the bike between today to the end of September. I hope you will help.
