I am returning for a second year to the Pan Mass Challenge, an annual bike-a-thon held in Massachusetts that raises money for cancer research and care at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) as well as the Jimmy Fund Clinic. Join me in helping raise money and awareness for this great cause! I will be doing the 80-mile ride from Bourne to Babson on August 6th and my goal is to raise a minimum of $2000. The best thing about this event is that it is tax-deductible and 100% of your donation will go directly towards the DFCI and Jimmy Fund. Any level of commitment is greatly appreciated and could make a major impact on someone's life.
We all have stories to share on the subject of cancer, whether it's a personal battle or a loved one who is currently battling it, has beaten it, or had lost their battle. Either way, they are all fighters. When I was 5 years old, my beautiful Grandmother, Louise Medwar-Capell, lost her long, hard-fought battle to lung cancer. I may have been young when she was alive, but her presence in my childhood has forever impacted me. I will forever remember her love for my sister and I. I also won't forget how she played a major part of my early childhood. We smile when we think back on how excited she would be when we came to visit and laugh about how she would hide candy for us in the bottom drawer of the dining room buffet, which used to frustrate my mother to no end. She was diagnosed a couple years before I was born and was in remission by the time I was born. It was a blessing that I had her in my life, even for a short period of time. Her strength gave her a chance to watch us grow, for which I will be forever grateful. I am riding for Louise Medwar-Capell, who I am proud to call my Grandmother, and the countless other victims and survivors who have been a part of my life one way or another.
