I am participating in my 8th annual Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) because of the profound and continuing impact of cancer on those I love, and because 100% of PMC fundraising goes directly to support the incredible work done at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. For example, Dana Farber started making videos to describe the impact of PMC funds, including this one featuring the doctor who saved my Dad, Dr. Ellen Taplin (https://vimeo.com/338944452).
Our goal for this year’s PMC is to raise $60 million for Dana Farber’s treatment and research, and it is an incredible testament to the generosity each of you who have helped me raise nearly $50,000 over the last 8 years.
Every year that I have participated in this cause, I have consistently been reminded of the toll that cancer takes on loved ones around me. I am sad to say that we have just lost a wonderful friend, Barbara Regan, who will be missed dearly by her family and everyone whose lives she has touched. The memory of Mrs. Regan - like my Gram and Gramp, and my Uncle Tim - motivates me to contribute to finding new treatments and cures that can save the lives of people who mean so much.
I am also mindful of the resolve and difficulties faced by those in remission from cancer. My own Mom just celebrated 16 years since the surgery to remove her cancer. She, my Aunt Carol Ann, my Dad, Mark, and Kait are all living proof of resilience.
Thank each of you who has supported this cause over the years, and thank you for considering doing so this year.
