On August 2nd and 3rd, I will be participating in my 9th Pan-Mass Challenge and will ride the traditional 2-day PMC route from Sturbridge, Massachusetts to Provincetown, Massachusetts (186 miles over the 2 days). This will be my 9th time riding PMC and will be riding with my FORZA-G teammates again, but I ride for the same reason I did when I rode in my 1st PMC in 2017. I ride in memory of my good friend Jeff, who passed away from cancer in June 2017 (I cannot believe it has been 8 years now). He was a co-worker at my Firm, a client for many years, a mentor and a true friend, and I Iooked up to him like a big brother. Many of you knew Jeff and if you never did – you would value his friendship and guidance, as I do even to this day.
Whether through training rides or PMC weekend, Jeff is on my mind. He and I rode mountain bikes a long time ago and had a blast together doing it. When he was battling cancer, he told me he wanted to ride again with me when he got better – we never did get to ride together, so when I ride, I know he is riding with me. Every year on day 2 of PMC the last few miles in Truro and P-Town brings him front a center to me and I reflect on the many things he taught me and showed me to be a better person.
Every dollar we raise goes directly to cancer research and potential cures for many, many people. Since I have been riding many people in my life are survivors, continue to fight or have passed from cancer. I honor all of the people that cancer has touched as it grows larger every year in our circles.
Everyone has a Jeff in their life, and I continue to honor him the best way I can.
Please consider donating to PMC to help the cause to raise funds for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Every dollar raised goes directly to DFCI.
