For the last 3 years I have focused on our team’s Pedal Partner Olivia from Westford. In February of 2023 2-year-old Olivia was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. As you can imagine this came as a shock to her parents and family, and she immediately began treatment at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
Last year I let you know that Olivia was in the middle of a two year chemotherapy treatment plan. Her schedule included multiple trips to the Jimmy Fund clinic each month, and was often delayed by her blood counts, nausea, and some orthopedic side effects of the drugs. Olivia was deemed to be in remission last year, and I am thrilled to write that in April, Olivia’s chemo port was removed and that she has COMPLETED her treatment. She is now returning to life as just a 5-year-old girl who is the world’s biggest Spiderman fan!
I have done this ride for 21 years, and for most of them our team has had a pedal partner like Olivia. We have also ridden for Pedal partners whose outcome was not as positive as Olivia. This is what keeps us riding year after year. What we do helps, and the doctors at the DFCI continue to say that the work they do would not be possible without the money raised by the PMC. Unlike any other fundraising event of its kind, 100% of all rider raised funds from the PMC go directly to the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber, last year for a total donation of $72 Million dollars representing over 60 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s revenue. Your donation counts and 100% of it goes directly to the good work being done by the DFCI and the Jimmy Fund.
It took the PMC 44 years to raise One billion dollars the Jimmy Fund and the DFCI. This didn’t happen without your help, and the thousands of riders and donors like you who have contributed along the way. The 2nd Billion dollars raised will take much less time than the first!. Last year, my daughter Heather and I, thanks to support of our families, friends and co-workers raised over $50,000 for the Jimmy Fund and DFC, and we hope to do the same this year. We are again doing the training and the riding and ask you to help in any way you can.
Donating to the PMC is easy, and there are many options.
The easiest option is to make your gift on-line by using the PMC eGift program. Simply click on the link below to go directly to my online site at: http://www.pmc.org/profile/JM0261. The process is simple and easy.
The other option is to make a check out to our team, DC Riders/PMC. Your tax-deductible check can be made payable to DC Riders/PMC. I will be happy to pick up donations or you can mail them to me at the address below. For every check I receive, I will contribute $10 to the PMC to cover postage and the cost of the envelope.
Thank you in advance for your support!
