When I think about why I ride, it’s impossible to name just one reason—or one person. Cancer has touched the lives of so many around me: family members, friends, children, and members of my community. Some I’ve seen heal. Some I’ve watched as cancer slowly took pieces of who they were. And some were taken far too soon, in ways no one should have to endure.
Though I can't choose just one, there are three women who will be on my mind with every mile: Debbie Picillo, Mary Campbell, and Claire MacGlashing.
Auntie Debbie is a pillar of unconditional love and support in our family. She was diagnosed with glioblastoma a little over a year and a half ago, and she continues to face every day with incredible courage and grace. This challenge is just a small way to show her how truly thankful I am for the love she has shown me over the years.
Mary, my dear friend Beth’s mother, was a gentle force whose strength, kindness, and encouragement left a lasting mark on those around her. She passed away just nine months after being diagnosed with glioblastoma in June of 2019.
Claire, my mother-in-law, faced a 15-year battle with breast cancer. A devoted mother, grandmother, and fierce lover of animals, she passed away peacefully this February.
I ride in honor of those who fight, in memory of those we’ve lost, and in hope—hope for a future where we can finally say there is a cure.
**100 percent of every dollar I raise goes directly to Dana-Farber, meaning that your donation has a real impact! Please donate to my PMC fundraising and help me reach my fundraising goal
I'm a proud participant in the Pan-Mass Challenge - a bike-a-thon that raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the country - to bring us Closer by the Mile to a cure for cancer.
Since its founding in 1980, PMC riders like me have raised more than $1 billion for lifesaving cancer research, treatment and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, one of the country's top cancer care hospitals. My PMC is making a difference in the lives of patients at Dana-Farber and around the world. The funds I raise support the innovative work of doctors, nurses, and scientists in their search for cures for cancers and related diseases.
