The FLAMES are a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
In 2024, our 126 rider strength and our supporting friends, families and colleagues helped us raise $1.4M as a team - for a total over our 24 years of $12.3M. We do not have any corporate underwriting or sponsorship, each of our riders takes their story to their supporters and achieves their goals on their own. We, as a team, are there for them and we sociaiize and train together as much as we can.
We have many cancer survivors as well as current patients on our team - in addition, to being founded by a patient (Cindy Hale) and her two nurses at Dana Farber (Kathleen McDermott, RN chemo) and Joan Caniff Kelly (RN oncology) at that time. That founding has kept us very close to the staff and epicenter for the latest in cancer research at Dana Farber. Each year, our FLAMES docs - primarily Dr Matt Davids, Dr. Ann LaCasce, Dr. Dan DeAngelo and Dr. David Fisher and their staff and colleagues - help us award 2 $50K grants to research projects in need of funding at DF. Awarded to young, resident doctors - these critical funds help that project get off the ground - and garner additional funding as often the first funding is the most important step. We hear from these doctors each year usually in May at our team gathering at DF.
Our team aligns with a young patient at Dana Farber - The JImmy Fund Clinic. Last year, Pedal Partner, Zoey is in remission now - and her and her family, will be cheering us on as we cheer for her to continue to be cancer free. We will announce our new Pedal Partner - hint one of four boys and from NH, shortly.
Each year, cancer research starts from $0. We aim high and we hope you join us. Every penny counts! It truly takes a village. Especially this coming year. Join us!
Thank you.
