Dear Friends,

I am beyond excited to ride in the 46th annual Pan-Mass Challenge this August—my eighteenth ride raising money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute with the members of Paul's Posse. I will ride as a former patient of Dana-Farber, grateful to be cancer-free and determined to help others fighting this battle.

Why This Matters More Than Ever

The Personal Stakes

Sadly, the number of people close to me affected by cancer continues to grow, including three of my current team members. I ride with them—and for them. They join others who have shaped my journey:

• My father-in-law, Joel Feldstein, who died of brain cancer in 2004
• My mother-in-law, Barbara, taken by cancer in 2019
• My beloved 17-year-old student, Fenov-Pierre Louis, robbed of his life by brain cancer in 2018

Their resilience prepared me to face my own 2019 cancer diagnosis with courage. Today, I'm part of a Dana-Farber study investigating leiomyosarcoma, the type of cancer that afflicted me. Riding isn't my only way of giving back.

Research That Works

Because of Dana-Farber's cutting-edge research, people like my friend Paul Schaye are alive today. Dr. George Demetri and the DFCI team developed Gleevec, successfully treating Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST). In 2006, Gleevec saved Paul's life—and continues saving lives every day. This is proof that research pays off.
