It has been and privilege and an honor to be part of such a devoted and dedicated team who have supported the PMC throughout the years, Team PowerCure - Rock the Cure!
We've all lived through these challenging times, and I can think of nothing else I'd rather do this year but continue my support of the PanMass Challenge! This past year was especially tough for me with the passing of my mom, may she rest in peace on angels wings, Mom, I'll ride like the wind for you!
It truly has been a rewarding journey for me over the past 18 years riding to support the PMC. This will be my nineteenth year riding. Time flies by so quickly, I can remember the early days of riding a Greg Lamond, steel frame bike, boy was it a ride! As the technology advanced I I graduated to a sleekl, Trek Emonda SL7 that gives me that little edge coupled with electronic shifting to get up those hills in Sturbridge.
I have so many fond memories of the people I've met, young and old along the route who are direct recipients of the care and research that the Dana Farber cancer institute provides. A day doesn't go by that I count myself luck to be part of the PMC in support of all that they do for eveyone.
I am doing my part, currently training for the 45th Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) on August 2 & 3, building on the $1Billion dollars raised for cancer research. With a goal or raising $75 million.
What keeps me going is giving back to this worthy cause and all the support from my contributors, each mile that I ride (to date over 25K miles and climbing). Every year is a new year with new routes and new opportunities to train for the two day event.
Our goal for the 2024 year’s Pan-Mass Challenge was to raise $72 million, a $3 Million increase over the $69 million we raised in 2023. By the end of August, it was clear that we would cruise past that, and we did in true PMC fashion.
On November 13th, we presented a $75 million check to the Jimmy Fund.
That brings the PMC’s 44-year total fundraising to a staggering $1.047 Billion, reinforcing the PMC’s status as the most successful single-event athletic fundraiser in the nation, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s largest single contributor. You can read the full press release and view the announcement article here..
For my part, my 2024 PMC ride raised $6,000, through all of the gracious support of my fundraising community. This brought my 17-year lifetime fundraising total to an even $84K. Our team, team Powercure set a goal in 2024 to raise $80K and we were able to raise $91K, we helped the PMC achieve it's goal to raise $1.047 Billion special thanks to all of our supporters.
When I rode my first PMC back in 2005, chemotherapy and radiation were the main treatments available for cancer, having mostly replaced the original last-ditch, barbaric response of organ removal.
As the thousands of supporters who line the ride route so often reminds us, many former cancer patients are alive and well today thanks to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Jimmy Fund, the PMC, and each and every one of our riders, volunteers, and financial donors like you.
While cancer still gives us plenty of reason to ride, we have made immense progress in understanding, treating, preventing, and in increasing numbers curing, this disease, and we are truly fulfilling the PMC’s slogan of getting “Closer By The Mile”.
To all my supporters I offer a heartfelt thank-you. A special thanks goes out to all of my supporters from Mobiquity, without your contributions my accomplishments wouldn’t be possible.
Thank you for enabling me to contribute to a cause that matters so much and thank you for caring about the wellbeing of your friends, family, and neighbors; as well as strangers you will never meet, and future generations to come. They will all benefit from your generous gift.
This success is the result of a lot of people supporting, riding for, volunteering, and really caring about our quest to find a cure for cancer!
I ride every mile in memory of Mom, Brian, Leo, Cecile, Raymond and everyone that's been affected by cancer.
I’ve made a personal commitment to ride and raise $4,000.00 or more this year. I hope you can help me achieve this significant goal. Please donate, every little bit counts!
Be well!
Rock the Cure!
Thanks for your support!
Michael
