As more family and friend have been impacted by cancer since I began this ride many years ago, my ride has evolved from the John McMahon Memorial Ride for the PMC to include all of our Boston Medical Center family. So many of us have seen colleagues and friends fight cancer. I also personally ride to honor my late uncle, Dr. Charles Lankau, Jr and my late aunt, Francis Lankau who were my godparents and very special people to our family. So many more friends and family have been added to the fight over these years and I'm so proud of their battle and resilience.
Please support Megan in her fundraising efforts for the PMC!!! Let's continue to fight cancer and find a cure!!

This August, I'm riding 111 miles again for the Pan Mass Challenge in honor our loved ones within the Boston Medical Center family and those closest to us who have been touched by cancer in this year. Each year, we encounter more and more people who are affected by cancer and we need to help find a cure!!
I began this ride 11 years ago to pay tribute to one of our beloved nurses at Boston Medical Center, John McMahon. Three years later, I found myself riding for my late uncle, Dr. Charles Lankau, Sr. who passed away Dec 7, 2013 of lung cancer (the exact day of the 3rd year anniversary of John McMahon's death, ironically). My uncle has been an inspiration to me all of my life...as my godfather, a model family man, and strong but kind pediatric surgeon. Losing him was very difficult for our family. And now, his wife and my godmother Francis also lost the fight w cancer several years later. It has only challenged me more to keep this fundraising effort going to help fight cancer and find a cure!
John was a nurse in the emergency department for two decades at BMC, the former Boston City Hospital. He took care of thousands of patients and helped train generations of doctors, nurses, paramedics, and EMTs. He also served our country in Vietnam. John McMahon passed away in December of 2010 due to metastatic lung cancer, after having beat two prior primary cancers in his lifetime. It is for special people like John that we fundraise for cancer research.
We hope that through supporting organizations such as Dana Farber and the Jimmy Fund, we can develop more effective treatments for all types of cancers so we do not have to lose such wonderful people before their time. Each year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
