I will be riding in my 14th Pan Mass Challenge in just a few weeks and would like to share great news: last year the PMC raised $75 million for Dana Farber, bringing the PMC’s lifetime donation to just over $1 billion since 1980! In addition, our pedal partner Abigail is a thriving 6 year old, and evidence-free from Neuroblastoma. My cousin Jess is now Living Proof that breast cancer treatments are effective, and she is strong with continued clean scans!
The PMC is the largest single donor to Dana Farber’s leading-edge cancer research, and those results are shared world wide through their collaborations and strategic alliances. This year our private contributions are increasingly important as federal funds are limited. To quote PMC founder Billy Starr, “we are not asking for funds to sit in an endowment; our donations are at work in the labs and clinics furthering the progress in finding a cure for cancer.”
Sadly, every year there are more reasons to ride. This winter another one of my biking teammates was diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately, it was caught early, and she is doing well. She is training with us through her treatments at Dana Farber and will be riding the full PMC! I am beyond humbled by her courage and dedication, and extremely grateful for the excellent medical care she is receiving. I will not be lamenting the hills and heat on the Cape this year, just grateful that I can and will be riding alongside my exceptional friend and wonderful teammates.
Please consider joining Bob and I in donating to the PMC this year. The event is August 2-3, 2025 and I am fundraising through the end of September. Every donation makes a difference, and all funds raised by riders go directly to Dana Farber.
Thank you for your continued support, it means a lot to me!
Love, Lori
