Friends and Family,
Thanks for taking the time to read this message This will be my 11th year riding in The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, and the first year doing it with my dad. This is such a great honor and something I will never forget!. The last few year has been tough for many but I am looking forward to spending time with them honoring their love ones. I am riding for my friends who have lost father's, mother's, brother's, sisters, and friends closer than blood. I ride for those who lost the fight but never stopped fighting. I ride for Scott Salman, Mr. Coffin, Bertil's family members, and everyone who is in the fight #Everybodyfights #cancer
My Story:
I first learned about the PMC in 1994 when I asked my mom why all those crazy people jump on their bikes every year in this heat. She replied Son, they're riding to save lives. I told my mom that day at the age of 11 that I would one day ride as well. Well, here I am about to start on my 9th of many PMC rides of my life with the strength of my mom and brother behind me. I have been blessed an honored to be the head trainer for the PMC and to represent Everybodyfights.
As most of you know, in January of '08 my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and soon after went through some tough decisions that affected her life. I credit her for being strong at a time in her life where giving up would have been easy. I remember one night in particular talking to her on the phone after work about what she had planned for the future and how strong she was in making the decision to have mastectomy. I was terrified for her thinking of this life threatening cancer, and how there was no guarantee for her survival after the surgery or even what was to come after the surgery. This situation was all too familiar for our family watching my 19 year old brother go in and out of the hospitals for 2 years for treatment soon to pass in January of '05 from heart failure in his sleep. Being in and out of the same hospitals and seeing those same white walls and blue curtains just brought memories back that where uncomfortable.
Soon after her surgery she was blessed with good news that the surgery had removed all the cancer and there was no sign of any cancerous cells in the surrounding tissue. It was at this time I decided to ride in the PMC in '08. With a friend and co-worker beside me I felt strong and committed to riding for a cause that could change the lives of many. I thought if I am going through this type of situation with my family everyone around the world must know someone who has or is go through cancer at this time.
For this reason, I am a proud Co-caption of the Team Path to the Cure” www.teampathtothecure.com that is riding in honor of an adorable little girl Emily who is being treated at the Dana Farber/Children's Hospital for a rare pediatric cancer called neuroblastoma. Emily's spunk and courage as she fights this arduous battle is an inspiration to us all. Our team will direct all the money we raise specifically to the Pediatric Oncology efforts at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). Everyone on this team, from the CHB Pathology members to our friends at Everybodyfights, strongly believes in the PMC’s mission and our ability to help specifically pediatric patients like Emily. I am Happy to annouce that as a team we have managaed to raise of $1 Million!!!
There is not going to be a magic pill that will cure all cancers. But, with persistent, innovative, and thoughtful science, breakthroughs will be and are being made. Join the fight against Cancer and donate to this great cause.
