I have been riding the Pan Mass Challenge since 2016, and each year I have dedicated my effort to family and friends battling cancer.
This year I ride in memory of Carole Lewis. Carole and Samuel “Bud” Lewis have been some of my parents’ oldest and closest friends, and I grew up surrounded by their love and friendship. There wasn’t a Cacciatore party (my parents had many) or life event that they were not included. Carole was a math and business teacher at Avon Grove High School for over 20 years. She was deeply connected with her students, and even helped establish their Red Devil Mascot, akin to the Philly Fanatic. Early in January, Carole was not feeling well and lost strength in her legs. She was diagnosed with a Spinal Chordoma and began treatment. Her cancer moved quickly and she passed away on March 1st surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren.
I feel for Bud and his family as they cope with Carole’s loss. I think about my Dad nearly every day, and still routinely grab the phone to call him. I hope that the funds we raise this year will give Bud and his family some solace. I also hope that these funds help us eventually live in a world free of cancer, and give us more quality time with our friends and family.
I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
Finally, I ask you to please contribute to this year's effort by clicking on either one of the links below and donating what you can.
