Dear Friends, Family and Colleagues, This is the THIRTEENTH year that Year Up (www.yearup.org) has entered a team in the PMC. In our first 12 years we have raised an impressive $5 million.
As a fellow nonprofit organization we understand both the challenges and importance of raising these funds. The strong team consists of National Board Members, Local Board Members, Staff, Alumni, family and friends. This energetic and eclectic team is honored to help raise money for life-saving cancer research and treatment for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. One hundred percent of all the money the Year Up Team will raise will go directly to Dana-Farber, which treats over 185,000 patients every year and is involved in nearly 200 clinical trials for cancer drugs and therapies.
In particular the team is honored to support our pedal partner Dmitri who is one of the most cheerful people any of us have ever met! As a team, we love spending time with Dmitri, we're thrilled that his health is now stable after a couple of very scary years, and we look forward to the day when his brain cancer is behind him. We're particularly encouraged that Dan Farber has found a new drug (supported greatly through the directed research that your PMC gifts make possible!) that may help Dmitri if his tumor starts to grow again.
Each one of us has our own story in riding the Pan Mass but we are all joined in the ultimate 'challenge' -- to help provide the necessary resources for doctors and researchers to ultimately discover cures for all cancers. Year Up fights to close the opportunity divide each and every day. We realize that Cancer does not strike every community equally. The communities that Year Up supports do not have the same access to health care as other communities and the incident rates of cancer are not equal. Year Up is heavily invested in this cause to help ensure that all communities benefit from the life saving research that the Dana Farber carries out as a result of the unrestricted funds raised by this amazing event.
