Why I Ride ...
ROAG, or "Roudenbush Outdoor Athletic Group", is an informal group that was originated by several cyclists from Westford and surrounding towns who converge at Westford’s Roudenbush Community Center parking lot for group rides.
The group consists primarily of mid-40’s to mid 50 year olds, of varying athletic backgrounds and talents. The common bond is primarily the “Group Ride”, but the group trains together and participates in a diverse set of outdoors-centric events including cycling, running, hiking, skiing, XC skiing, snow shoe racing, mountain biking, and endurance trail-running, as well as many family-oriented outings based around skiing, camping, and hiking. The group concept has helped us channel a lot of collective passion for cycling, exercise, quality friendships, family, and contributing to society including our annual participation and contribution to the PMC.
Team ROAG’s participation in the Pan Mass Challenge originated with Mark Rodman, who participated in the PMC 1995-2008. Over the years ROAG’s participation has grown to as many as 20 riders, and through the generosity of friends and family, has contributed over $600,000 over the last 9 years.
Team ROAG’s participation in the Pan Mass Challenge continues to evolve, with the PMC remaining a cornerstone of the motivation for the early morning and long weekend training rides. In 2014 Team ROAG will have 6 riders participating in the 190 mile Sturbridge to P-Town ride, with a goal of contributing $30,000 to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. The balance of ROAG enthusiastically supports our PMC 2014 team via the camaraderie of the training rides, participation in the “day zero” 100 mile ride TO Sturbridge for the start of the PMC, participation in the PMC on other teams (Dassault, Lick Cancer) as well as via their own generous contributions to the PMC via Team ROAG.
We remain proud to participate in this great event for such a worthy cause, and we are committed to preparing for and participating “with gusto” in PMC 2014 " contributing our group riding skills, energy-levels, enthusiasm, and of course, the targeted $30,000 in fund raising.
We sincerely appreciate your generous contributions to the Pan Mass Challenge via Team ROAG’s continued participation.
