TOGETHER we will TACKLE CANCER. The Patriots Platelet Pedalers are a group of like-minded individuals of all cycling abilities. We ride each August in the Pan Mass Challenge to raise critical research dollars for Dana Farber Cancer Institute. OUR goal is a world without cancer!
2021 was another great year for the Patriots Platelet Pedalers as 188 team members raised $1,403.095. This marked the 7th consecutive year in our 14 year history as the Patriots Platelet Pedalers and previous 8 years as the Platelet Pedalers that we raised over the $1 million! Given that we broke our sibgle year record during the ongoing global health crisis is simply a testament to the grit, determination and heart of all our members!
Join us to help find a cure for cancer by riding your bicycle as a member of the Patriots Platelet Pedalers. The team rides in the Pan Mass Challenge to raise money for cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
The Pan Massachusetts Challenge, a weekend-long charity bicycle ride to benefit Dana-Farber through the Jimmy Fund. Started in 1980, the Pan Mass Challenge is the largest charity bicycling event in the country, raising over $717 million for cancer research and treatment.
In 2021, the Patriots Platelet Pedalers 188 team members raised over $1,403,095 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. 100% of the money the team raises is earmarked for Dr. Ken Anderson, the Kraft Family Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, to support his multiple myeloma research and development of novel therapies. While the team fundraising is restricted to this research, a recent quote from Dr.Anderson explains that our fundraising helps more than just those diagnosed with multiple myeloma. The most recent exciting news is that one of the drugs we identified and studied both in the laboratory and clinical trials leading to its FDA approval (lenalidomide) is useful when taken on a chronic basis to prolong the time without myeloma. This assures that myeloma is a chronic illness in many, if not most, patients!! Moreover, our research on new drugs to treat myeloma has already extended not only to help patients with other blood cancers such as leukemias and lymphomas, but also to patients with solid tumors such as prostate, colon and breast cancers.
