There are many reasons why you start to ride or why you keep riding...It’s usually a decision that comes up when you or someone you care about is struggling with something beyond their control or losing a fight. The person's struggle impacts the people around them. You just want to help. What can you do? People help in different ways. Some offer advice or maybe money. Many people will offer time. Time spent making something or talking to someone and helping to fill the void while the person is struggling. We all make decisions to start the ride every day. The decision to keep riding can be more difficult. Sometimes we lose. But we keep on fighting. And that's why we keep riding.
TEAM NUDAY is named after the old sailboat owned and loved by Norm's kids (Chip, Mark, Victoria and Chris) as well as other relatives and friends. Norm sailed for over 35 years having started out with a small sunfish back in the 1970's. He eventually moved up to 30-footers that he maintained and captained himself. Anyone who has an interest or hobby will understand this is something he got a lot of joy out of, especially when he shared it with his loved ones. Norm passed away in June 2011. He didn't lose the fight to cancer. He was winning that fight-what was diagnosed as prostate cancer a few years prior to that was in remission. He lost some other fights along the way and it wasn't an easy ride.
We think about Norm every year we ride. We will also think about Scott's father, Leonard, who fought cancer and passed away a couple years ago. We will think about George, and his son Doug, who are both fighting the disease as well. Finally, two of our own team members, Mark and Scott, were diagnosed in the last few years as well. Because of the important research done on cancer over many decades, both are getting the treatment needed to fight this awful disease. Our thoughts will be with everyone along for the ride who is struggling, fighting, and hopefully winning their battles.
We are inviting you to be part of TEAM NUDAY and raise money for this worthy cause that has deeply impacted our family. This year Mark and Chip are representing the team on the Sturbridge-Bourne 110-mile ride. Last year 100% of the $75M+ in rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure. Overall the PMC has raised over $1 Billion in funding/donations since 1980. Our team has raised $200,000 in total donations during the last 15 years. It feels great to be part of this event to continue raising money and awareness for this year and many years to come.
